Stem cell therapy

Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC)

One of the most common procedures we use for joint injuries and arthritis: stem cell therapy created from your own bone marrow aspirate concentrate.

The preferred source

Why bone marrow aspirate?

Bone marrow is a rich source of mesenchymal stem cells that play a key role in orthopedic healing and tissue regeneration. During a BMAC procedure, Dr. Movva carefully harvests the required amount of bone marrow from the iliac crest (the back of the hip area). The marrow is then processed using a centrifuge to concentrate stem cells, growth factors, and healing proteins.

The resulting bone marrow aspirate concentrate is then precisely injected into the injured or arthritic area under image guidance (ultrasound or X-ray), where it begins the process of stimulating the body’s natural repair response.

What BMAC is used for

Common conditions treated

A non-surgical option for painful orthopedic conditions, especially when traditional approaches have not provided lasting relief.

  • Arthritis & joint pain: knees, hips, shoulders, and ankles
  • Cartilage damage: early to moderate osteoarthritis or focal cartilage injuries
  • Ligament & tendon injuries: rotator cuff tears, tennis elbow, Achilles tendon issues, ACL/MCL sprains
  • Sports & overuse injuries: chronic joint or tendon pain from repetitive stress

Recovery timeline

What to expect after treatment

All patients go home the same day. Mild soreness at the bone marrow collection site and injection areas is common for several days, as the healing process begins with a natural inflammatory response.

  1. First few days

Mild soreness or stiffness is typical.

  2. Weeks 2–6

Gradual improvement in pain, mobility, and daily function.

  3. Months 2–6

Continued healing as stem cells and growth factors support tissue repair.

  4. Your rehab plan

Dr. Movva provides a personalized rehabilitation plan to help you achieve the best possible results.

FAQ

BMAC questions

Ask us your question
Are regenerative orthopedic treatments safe?

At RegenOrthoSport, patient safety is our highest priority. Many regenerative procedures use your body's own biologic materials, such as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) or bone marrow-derived cells, which helps reduce the risk of allergic reactions. Every treatment is performed using advanced image guidance to improve precision and safety.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on your diagnosis, severity of injury, treatment goals, and healing response. Some patients achieve their desired outcome after a single procedure, while others may benefit from a staged treatment plan.

What is recovery like after treatment?

Recovery is typically much shorter than traditional orthopedic surgery. All patients go home the same day and gradually resume normal daily activities based on their physician's recommendations and individualized rehabilitation plan.

Who may not be a candidate?

Certain advanced injuries, severe joint damage, active infections, or specific medical conditions may make regenerative treatment less appropriate. Every patient receives a comprehensive evaluation to determine the safest and most effective treatment approach.
