Regenerative treatment for back pain & disc problems

Image-guided regenerative procedures that aim to work with your body’s natural healing response for disc, facet joint and SI joint pain.

Spine pain

Back pain can change the way you live

Sitting at your desk, standing to cook a meal, lifting a child, or even trying to sleep can trigger sharp or aching pain that limits your day. Over time, you may avoid activities you enjoy and lose strength and mobility.

Using precise, image-guided injections (ultrasound or fluoroscopy), regenerative treatments deliver concentrated healing components to painful spinal structures, such as facet joints, sacroiliac (SI) joints, ligaments, and in select cases, discs. The goal is to reduce inflammation, promote tissue repair, and improve function over time, offering a minimally invasive alternative to long-term medications or early surgery.

Primary treatment

Stem cell therapy (BMAC)

Your own bone marrow–derived cells and growth factors are concentrated and injected to support repair and stability in targeted areas of the spine and pelvis. All procedures are performed with image guidance to ensure precise placement at the source of pain.

Each treatment is performed by Dr. Venkatesh Movva with ultrasound or X-ray guidance to ensure accurate placement.

How stem cell therapy works

Before surgery or steroids

Why consider regenerative injections first?

Conventional pathways for spine pain often include repeated corticosteroid injections or elective surgeries such as spinal fusion, laminectomy, or disc procedures. Steroid injections may offer short-term relief but do not encourage tissue repair and can have diminishing returns with repeated use. Surgery can be necessary in specific cases, but it involves higher risk, longer recovery, and irreversible structural changes.

Regenerative injections are designed to preserve and support native tissue. For appropriate candidates, this approach may help delay or avoid surgery and reduce reliance on medications, while focusing on the root cause of pain rather than masking symptoms.

Recovery timeline

What to expect after treatment

All patients go home the same day. Mild soreness at the bone marrow collection site and injection areas is common for several days, as the healing process begins with a natural inflammatory response.

  1. First few days

Mild soreness or stiffness is typical.

  2. Weeks 2–6

Gradual improvement in pain, mobility, and daily function.

  3. Months 2–6

Continued healing as stem cells and growth factors support tissue repair.

  4. Your rehab plan

Dr. Movva provides a personalized rehabilitation plan to help you achieve the best possible results.

I started my journey with Dr. Movva 7 months ago to regenerate L4L5. Still healing, however; extremely pleased with my progress. All of Dr. Movva’s staff are equally as great.

FAQ

Spine treatment questions

Ask us your question
Am I a candidate for regenerative orthopedic treatment?

Candidates are typically individuals seeking non-surgical options for joint pain, sports injuries, tendon or ligament damage, or degenerative orthopedic conditions. Your physician will determine whether regenerative treatment is appropriate based on your diagnosis, imaging findings, and overall health.

Can regenerative treatments help me avoid surgery?

Many patients seek regenerative orthopedic care because they want to delay or avoid surgery whenever appropriate. While surgery may still be necessary in some cases, our goal is to explore advanced non-surgical options that may help relieve pain, improve function, and support natural healing before considering surgical intervention.

What is recovery like after treatment?

Recovery is typically much shorter than traditional orthopedic surgery. All patients go home the same day and gradually resume normal daily activities based on their physician's recommendations and individualized rehabilitation plan.

How long before I notice improvement?

Healing is a gradual biological process. Some patients begin noticing improvement within several weeks, while others continue to experience progress over several months as damaged tissues respond to regenerative treatment.

Are there risks or side effects?

Most patients experience only mild soreness, swelling, or stiffness for a few days after treatment. As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks, which your physician will discuss during your consultation along with the expected benefits based on your condition.
