Interventional pain management
Image-guided injections and spine procedures used both to find the source of pain and to treat it.
What it is
Finding the pain generator, then treating it
Interventional pain management means treating pain with targeted, image-guided procedures rather than with medication alone. Using fluoroscopy (live X-ray) or ultrasound, a small volume of medication is placed at one specific structure — a facet joint, a nerve root, the sacroiliac joint, a bursa, a tendon sheath.
That precision does two jobs. If the pain settles when a single structure is treated, that tells us the diagnosis. And in many cases the procedure itself provides the relief that makes rehabilitation possible.
Dr. Movva trained in interventional pain management before founding RegenOrthoSport, and it remains part of the practice. For many patients it sits alongside regenerative treatment rather than competing with it: an interventional block can confirm the target before a regenerative injection is planned for the same structure.
Procedures
Procedures offered at RegenOrthoSport

- Selective nerve root blocks
- Transforaminal epidural injections

- Facet rhizotomy (radiofrequency ablation)

- Percutaneous disc decompression (including Decompressor discectomy)
- Sympathetic nerve blocks
- Botulinum toxin injections for muscle-related pain

Why image guidance
Guided, not estimated
Accurate placement
Fluoroscopy and ultrasound show the target in real time, so the injection reaches the structure it is meant to reach.
Diagnostic value
When one structure is treated in isolation, its response tells us whether it is the source of your pain.
Less collateral trauma
Seeing the needle means avoiding what should be avoided and using the smallest effective volume.
Where this is used
Conditions we most often treat this way
- Back & disc pain Facet joints, nerve roots and discs.
- Herniated & bulging discs Disc material pressing on a nerve, the usual cause of sciatica.
- Degenerative disc disease Worn, dehydrated discs and the chronic ache that comes with them.
- Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain Diagnostic and therapeutic SI joint injections.
- Continued pain after lower back surgery Working out which structure is generating pain now.
- Shoulder, hip, knee and ankle pain Ultrasound-guided joint, bursa and tendon procedures.
How do image-guided procedures improve safety?
Ultrasound and fluoroscopic image guidance allow precise placement of regenerative therapies into the damaged tissue or joint. This level of accuracy helps improve treatment precision while minimizing unnecessary trauma to surrounding structures.
Are there risks or side effects?
Most patients experience only mild soreness, swelling, or stiffness for a few days after treatment. As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks, which your physician will discuss during your consultation along with the expected benefits based on your condition.
What happens during my first consultation?
Your complimentary consultation includes a detailed review of your medical history, previous imaging, physical examination, and discussion of your symptoms and goals. Ultrasound and X-ray are available in our office at the time of your consultation, and both are complimentary. If appropriate, additional diagnostic imaging may be recommended before developing a personalized treatment plan.
Do you accept insurance?
RegenOrthoSport is a self-pay practice, so regenerative procedures are not billed to insurance and are not reimbursable by Medicare. You'll receive a clear quote after your complimentary consultation, before anything is scheduled. There is more than one way to finance treatment: we offer an in-house payment plan, and monthly payment plans are also available through Cherry. Cost & payment plans.
